Miss Philippines Karen Ibasco became the 17th Miss Earth which just concluded at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines on November 4, 2017. She was crowned by Miss Earth 2016 Katherine Espín of Ecuador. Karen, a licensed physicist, won Miss Earth 2017 pageant after going through evening gown, swimsuit and interview round.
Her answer to final question and answer round won her the crown and the fourth for Philippines joining likes of Karla Henry, Jamie Harrell and Angelia Gabrena Ong as Miss Earth winners from Philippines.
Karen was asked who or what she thinks is the biggest enemy of Mother Earth and why.
Ibasco said: “I believe that the real problem in this world is not climate change. The real problem is us because of our ignorance and apathy. What we have to do is to start changing our ways, to start recalibrating our minds and redirecting our steps because together, as a global community, our micro-efforts will have a macro-effect to help save our home, our planet.”
The elemental court winners are Australia’s Nina Robertson as Miss Earth Air 2017, Russia’s Lada Akimova as Miss Earth Fire 2017 and Colombia’s Juliana Franco as Miss Earth Water 2017.
Representatives from Czech Republic, Netherlands, Thailand and Venezuela made it to the top 8 while Angola, Guatemala, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Cameroon, Tonga, Switzerland, USA and Vietnam were in the top 16.
