During the ABS-CBN interview with Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo, it was reported that Miss Universe Organization has approached them about hosting the pageant again this year in November.
According to Teo, the organizers were happy with the event that was held in Philippines in January, when Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach crowned France’s Iris Mittenaere. The pageant, she said, even overshadowed the pre-events of the recent Super Bowl, which is one of the biggest sporting events in the US.
It is indeed true the 65th Miss Universe pageant was a huge success. From the press conference to pre-pageant activities held in various locations around the country, such as Vigan, Cebu, Baguio, and Davao, among others to the support of the fans from across the world and the inclusion of locals in the pageant activities, the Miss Universe contest in Philippines was one of the best edition in its history.
While it will take some time to formally announce whether to host Miss Universe pageant in November or not, Teo mentioned in the interview that if they did host the pageant, they want a larger control over the event and look for sponsors for expenses.
This will be the fourth time if Philippines host the pageant. Philippines hosted the Miss Universe pageant first in 1974, then in 1994, and then earlier this year 2017.
While there are rumors about France and Australia being interested in hosting the same pageant this year, this latest news is indeed a good news for pageant fans.
