23 year old Vian Amer from the province of Sulaimani was crowned Miss Iraq 2017 overcoming a stiff competition from 14 women from across Iraq and the Kurdish province.
Vian, a Kurdish, is originally from the province of Sulaimani and is currently working for an insurance company in Baghdad. She aims to promote women’s right in her country, Iraq.
At the same event, Masty Hama, became Miss Halabja Hawraman, from Halabja province was the first runner-up for Miss Iraq 2017, and Marina Roqan from Baghdad was chosen as the second runner-up and became Miss Rusafa-East Baghdad. Sara Abdulwahid became Miss Erbil and was selected as the third runner-up for Miss Iraq 2017.
This is the third edition of Miss Iraq. 2015 was its first edition. Iraq held its first beauty pageant in 1972 and again in 2015 after 43 years without the competition. It is not confirmed yet if Vian will take part in international pageant. Last year winner was slated to take part in Miss Universe but did not compete due to various reasons.
